Let your kid’s imagination soar in the kitchen with fruits and vegetables, and teach them healthy habits that will last a lifetime!

Here are some tips to encourage kids to eat their five servings of fruits and vegetables a day:

  1. Let them taste a variety of fruits and vegetables. Once a month go to the store and buy a “new” fruit or veggie.

  2. Make fruits and veggies available for snack time. A favorite of ours is placing a fresh cut fruit bowl or small fruits like grapes, berries or carrots on a shelf in the fridge that is at their level so they see it and grab it. They love being independent and feel like an adult when they get their own things.

  3. Serve fruits and/or veggies with every meal. Break the rules, serve veggies for breakfast! For example, broil tomatoes with shaved cheese and eggs, include fruits with dessert, or add two veggies with lunch or dinner on their plate

  4. Get kids to help plan the menu or pack their lunch boxes. Ask them to make suggestions and guide them to include a fruit or veggie with the meal. If it’s their idea, they will eat it!

  5. When kids help in the kitchen they learn to count, measure, cook, and more importantly share time with Mom or Dad. Don’t be afraid to give them tasks; they can scoop out avocado with a spoon to mash for guacamole, cut bananas with a table knife, or mix the dressing in a salad and toss the ingredients together.

  6. Act like a sous-chef! Line up all the ingredients and let the kids put the recipe together. Encourage them to smell and taste the ingredients before they go in.
